Stop at ANEST COLLECTIVE’s showroom ‘THE ANEST VENUE’ (Via Montenapoleone 17, ) in Milan, Italy, where the ‘Pot Variation’ collection by Dutch designer Aldo Bakker and J.Hill Standard is displayed. The warm light penetrates the window lattice, and the static utensils draw vivid modern brushstrokes in the canvas-like space.
Unwilling to be divided by time and trends, Aldo Bakker is a designer who contends with the spirit of the times; Brendan Mullane, ANEST’s special creative director, is good at burying what is presented behind the first glance. At THE ANEST VENUE, both His works resonate at the intersection of the curve and the straight line. They choose to whisper instead of shouting. The viewer needs to spend time with the work, observe and feel, and walk into a rich contemplation.
Generous shapes, curves and planes are harmoniously combined. Robustness, exclusivity, elegance and an absolute focus on sensory experience have led Aldo to use blown and kiln-cast glass, brass, stone and porcelain in the ‘Pot Variation’ collection. Aldo describes them as dense and quiet materials that make for colorful and timeless pieces.
The contrast between the rough and the smooth, the matte and the glossy, the fine-grain leather that has been stroked by the hands, the stitches left by the open needles, the bright metallic sheen of the covered hardware...
